Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the biggest topics today. Some people love it, some people fear it. But while the world talks about AI in offices, a quiet revolution is happening in the recording studio.

From the initial tech hype to new software rewriting how tracks are mixed, the global music industry is changing forever right now. This fast development brings deep fears about artistic identity and future income. Will music become generic and robotic, or is AI just a powerful new tool?

The proof that this revolution is already here comes from a big study by GEMA and SACEM. It shows that 35% of all surveyed musicians already use AI in their work. But the data reveals a massive age gap: it is a movement driven almost entirely by youth. For musicians under 34, over half (51%) are already using AI tools. Meanwhile, for older artists over 55, that number drops to just 25%.

„There is this instant gratification that you get from AI, but the process of making music was kind of lost.“
Lars von Sonne, independant musician

To understand both sides of this change, we look at the industry from two unique perspectives. There is Jakob Mäder, an industry expert from the Popbüro Region Stuttgart, who provides an expert perspective on how AI is currently being used by young musicians and expresses his own view of the industry. We also hear from Lars von Sonne, a young artist from Cologne, who reflects on how AI affects creativity, songwriting and artistic authenticity.

Their insights lead us straight to the core of the debate: Can a machine really create a hit song with a true human soul? Or are we heading toward a future of generic music? Click on the Audio below to answer this question.
